The Deck Grating

Steel grating running away towards the raised bascule, and the whole bridge drawing itself in lines.

This is the bridge. Not a replica and not the one carrying traffic today — the actual span that D Company came down onto in the first minutes of 6 June 1944, lifted out in 1994 and standing in the museum park ever since. Walk along it and you can still find where the bullets went in.

Everything else on this coast has been tidied, rebuilt or explained. This has simply been kept, with the damage left on it.
