The rows at Ranville running away under a sky that was doing all the work that evening.
Most of the men here are British, and a great many are 6th Airborne — the division that took Pegasus Bridge in the first minutes of the invasion and the Merville Battery a few hours later. Ranville was the first village in France to be liberated. They are buried a few hundred yards from what they took.
They lie in ranks with the dressing perfect. Even dead, they are still on parade.
Ranville War Cemetery, Normandy. August 2019. Canon 6D Mark II, 16–35mm.
Printed at 46,5 × 30 cm through WhiteWall in Berlin. Choose Ilford or Baryta paper, as a plain print or framed — what the finishes actually mean.
