TitleHigh-Resolution Digital File

The full-resolution file of this photograph, to print yourself at whatever size your printer and paper will carry. The real file, not a web-sized copy.

Rusted wire coiled on a weathered post above the sand at Utah, with the Channel behind it. The 4th Infantry Division came ashore here at half past six on the morning of 6 June 1944, roughly two thousand yards south of where they meant to — which turned out to be luck, because that stretch was thinly held. Their casualties were a fraction of Omaha's.

End of the afternoon, end of the beach, end of the series.
