Inside a German bunker at Pointe du Hoc — two embrasures, and doorways going back into the dark. Around two hundred and twenty-five Rangers of the 2nd Ranger Battalion came up the thirty-metre cliff below here on the morning of 6 June 1944 and found the gun positions empty. The guns had been moved inland. They went and found them.
