The River Aln passes through Alnmouth via a stone arch bridge that has been doing so for several hundred years and shows no intention of stopping. There are three arches. The middle one frames the valley beyond. A figure sits on the wall, not doing anything in particular, which is exactly what the photograph needed.

I found this frame in the way you find all the good things — by being somewhere you didn't plan to be, with a camera you nearly left in the car. The Nikon FE rewards that kind of accident. HP5+ at 400 renders the Northumberland stone the way it should be: grey, solid, older than the road it carries.
