All Counterweight and Rivets — Digital Download
The full-resolution file of this photograph, to print yourself at whatever size your printer and paper will carry. The real file, not a web-sized copy.
The lifting bridge at Bénouville seen from underneath — all counterweight and rivets. The original was taken in the first minutes of 6 June 1944 by three gliders carrying D Company of the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry under Major John Howard, the first Allied action of the day. That bridge now stands in the museum park; this is the one that replaced it in 1994, and it is still a working road bridge.
