A slab of bunker the size of a car, lifted by the bombardment and put down again at an angle in the long grass.
Concrete does not so much break as tip over. Pointe du Hoc took one of the heaviest bombardments of the invasion and the ground has never been levelled since, which is why it is still the most legible battlefield on this coast. You are not being shown what happened. You are walking on it.
The emptiness is the history, not a gap in my coverage.
Pointe du Hoc, Cricqueville-en-Bessin, Normandy. August 2026. Fujifilm X-T2, 18–55mm.
Printed at 50,6 × 30 cm through WhiteWall in Berlin. Choose Ilford or Baryta paper, as a plain print or framed — what the finishes actually mean.
